Quilt of Valor 49 - 3rd Covered Bridge - Bridge In Winter

I am a real fan of covered bridges, but my bridges are all based on my imaginative memory of the bridge in Brown County State Park. I've turned it into a series. Disappointingly, I forgot to get a good photo of this one, before I put it in the mail. A Quilt of Valor for a soldier long returned from service.

I forgot to get a 'finished' photo!!!

Top - it's not finished, but gives the idea
Bottom - still some decorating to do.

Icy Pond or Frosty Window - Quilt of Valor

Without Binding - The Thaw Begins

Slowly, slowly it is coming together. I haven't decided which name to give it, it will have to await the top being finished for me to know, I think. I bought a piece of fabric, all that they had, that started this idea in my head. The grey and blue fabric that looks like a frosty window or a pond where this ice may be cracking. Lots of cut pieces, lots of measuring and sewing... There's not enough of the first fabric, and I didn't even get as much as I thought I did. I realized I needed more, and found the closest match for the next set of blocks, but thinking I had more of the original, I didn't get enough of the second fabric, so had to get another fabric to get me to enough blocks to finish this.

Every single block has to be hand-pieced. In many quilts the blocks are the same pieces that are sewed together, this on isn't like that, they are sewed together, but off-center, so each takes more time and effort. I've finally got through to the last fabric, and have them pinned to sew tomorrow. Then there's lots of trimming, before assembly can begin.

Seasonal Dresses!

A friend needed a new dress or two, and sent a photo.

I decided to put a seasonal spin on the photo, to see if they would work for her. I made the first one (using a separate tee pattern and skirt pattern, couldn't find one with both together) and found that the Tee was too long, so I had to pull it apart and fix it. In the winter seasonal dress (green top) the 2nd and 3rd tier of the skirt are the suggested sizes, cut out just as the pattern shows, but they are the 2nd and 3rd tier, it was too long to include the first tier. in the fall seasonal, (gold top) I changed the pattern lengths to get all three tiers in.

Once completed, I realized a belt was important to make it look finished, so I made one, that was reversible, to give a little different look. I think they turned out very well (photos taken prior to hand sewing down the neck facing, sorry.)

First Attempt, tee too long
Ripped it apart, tee better length
Needed it in more colors
It needs a reversible belt!

Halloween Kitchen Towels

My sister and I just started on these. An early holiday gift, that will be going out immediately to all the family.

Some of them have the reverse side decorated, but they are all decorative kitchen towels. For those with shoes, one side of the shoes are black, the other side are ruby slippers (or gold elfin shoes, both of which take some time to create.)

We are on to the Christmas decorations next, and then all the towels will go in the mail, so everyone can be decorated for all the holidays.
