Through It All - I Still Work on Genealogy, Too!

Like everyone, I get bored. I read a lot in the evenings, and I have projects I work on during the day, or errands, or walking in a park. In the mornings, I do a little genealogical research. It's sooooo much different than when I started!! Visiting libraries, courthouses, anyplace that stored documents, writing letters, making calls, meeting folks to find out what I could!  Now it's just time on the computer.

 

My Family Tree

Something I seem to always be working on, my family tree. I had a theory that names and families would intermix on all sides, if one went back far enough. Now I don't know that you can get back far enough, or whether the theory exists here, or on another plane, but it doesn't matter. It's a puzzle to work on, and see what can be found.

I recently believe I found my 3rd Great grandfather on my father's mother's side, and have been building that family out here, even though it will take a trip to Indiana and a dive through records to determine whether the connection is correct, but it sure seems to fit. From names to having settled in Indiana not far from each other a long, long time ago.

 As you can see, I have 120K folks in my 'file' though only 76K of these are in my 'tree'. The others connect, or many of them do, I just haven't found the where and when. Some of them connect to other people in my file, not my direct family, like cousins (where I followed something back hoping that it would connect up else where) or in-laws.

Added Some Photo's to Ancestry.com

Took some time out from sewing to do a little research for a family member and put up 60 photos on the Ancestry.com media page for my account. So far, it's just for one side, but I will get the other's out there soon!

Family Tree Uploaded

Another thing I've been working on pretty steadily has been my family tree. I was able to load a big chunk of it this week, to Ancestry, to help other researchers. Earlier attempts to upload it failed, but my leaving Frontier, and maybe updates to the website made it possible and easy to upload. 

My 'file' on Family Tree Maker is 112K, but I have yet to link all the folks who are probably related. My last name isn't that common, and it probably related to anyone with it, as well as one of my Grandmother's. Of course, names like White, Smith, Jones... They are in there too, and without the supposition that they are related to any others with the same name... I usually spend an hour or so each day on finding information, which is why it's as big as it is.
